Energy Storage Solutions FAQ's

The technology is Nano Carbon. This is based on the internal design and construction of the cells, that use a Nano Carbon (Fullerene) composite. Core Environmental Systems Enviro Cell range of batteries utilise this technology.

The Enviro Cells have been specifically designed to address ALL of the shortfalls faced with current battery technology. Whether it is harmful acids, heavy metals or thermal runaway (fire/explosion), the Enviro Cell do not pose any of these risks. The technology completely eliminates the concern of overcharging and overheating, is made from natural organic material and is fully recyclable.

Depending on which industry you are referring to, will depend on which benefits are more attractive/important. Below are some of the main common benefits:

  • No risk of thermal runaway or self-generating fire / explosion
  • 100% Recycable
  • Extremely long shelf life (+10 years) – Less than 2% self-discharge rate
  • No maintenance required
  • Very low internal resistance
  • Ability to operate in temps from -20 to + 70 degrees
  • Fast charging capabilities (8 mins)
  • Rated to over 3600 charge/discharge cycles
  • Internal BMS (Battery Management System) standard
  • Smaller and lighter
  • High energy density (Wh/kg)

The BMS ensures the cells are protected throughout the life of the battery. This means that human factors like over charging or over discharging can no longer happen.

Currently we have a failure rate of less than 2%. However, the cells that have failed our stringent internal quality standards are still suitable for non critical, low level applications and still out perform traditional battery technologies.

Heat is the single biggest factor to shortening a batteries life. Heat can be caused through internal factors such as internal resistance, where the flow of charging or discharging internally throughout the battery causes heat to generate, or, from external factors such as the environment in which the battery is made to operate.

The Enviro Cells makeup consists of vegetable fluids electrolytes which does not generate toxic gases and combustible components even in extreme environments. This means that unlike traditional battery technology, you can aggressively charge and discharge the Enviro Cells without them heating to an unsafe level. Further, the Enviro Cell can be designed to operate in temperatures up to 75 degrees without adversely impacting on their ability to perform. Its low internal resistance makes the rise in temperature during its charging and discharging to be negligible. This safety factor alone, makes the Enviro Cell, the battery of choice to be used for electric vehicles. In addition to that, the Enviro Cell can still function even if it is submerged under water.

The Enviro Cells are rated to over 3600 cycles. Simulated accelerated cycle tests conducted by independent operators, proved that after 6 years’ worth of cycling (1 cycle per day) the Enviro Cell still had over 83% capacity. This data proves that the Enviro Cell can last over 20 years (7300 cycles).

It is a Japanese developed technology.

2011. Around the time of the Fukushima earthquake.

The professor who invented the NCB technology was concerned about the future of global power and environmental impacts. So, he set out to develop a battery technology that was environmentally friendly, safe to use, performed efficiently and addressed all the shortfalls of modern battery applications.

Yes. To date there have been several improvements both in the actual chemical composition and the physical composition. Larger cells have enabled smaller applications with greater power capacity. Our standard 3.2v 4Ah, 3.2v 10Ah and 3.6v 10Ah cells have now seen continuous improvements delivering 4.2v 5Ah, 4.2v 20Ah and 6v 30Ah cells, enabling us to deliver greater power in smaller units.

It is literally that new and infant in its development. Historically smaller countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Fiji would not see such new technologies until they have been released in other countries first, and by then are normally playing catch up. Due to the relationships that exist, each of these countries has a unique opportunity to be one of the first countries to pioneer this technology, making them global innovation leaders.

We have been working closely with a number of industries over the last 15 months to validate the Enviro Cells and to date, we have had outstanding results. The main areas of testing have been in both electric carts and rolling stock across multiple states. All results have been better than expected and prove the Enviro Cells are the world’s best battery available.

Yes. To date we have had the cells independently tested by a certified global laboratory for the below areas:

  • Chemical composition
  • Smoke and fume
  • Toxicity
  • Shock and vibration
  • Thermal (-40 to + 75c)
  • Altitude simulation
  • External short circuit
  • Overcharge
All passed with flying colours.

Unlike lithium-ion where the risk of an explosion would occur, the Enviro Cells construction is such that it is not adversely affected by puncturing the cells. In fact, tests to date have proven that as much as 3 punctures of a single cell can occur before any detrimental effect on its ability to deliver its rated power.
